LINCOLN HILLS ARTS ASSOCIATION MEMBERS MEETING

CALL TO ORDER: Vice President, Fred Ekman at 2:00 PM.

MINUTES: Members Meeting minutes will be posted on the LHAA website - www.lharts.org. If you don’t have Internet access, please partner with someone who does.

TREASURER’S REPORT: No report

Judy Hovis was absent. From Board Meeting Minutes: Balance as of 6/30/09 = $3,631.34 with income of $13,155.88 and expenses of $13,157.83 during June with the Fine Arts Show’s income and expenses included.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Terry Banderas

Membership is 188. Updated/new rosters will be sent out quarterly. The June Meeting had an attendance of 51 members and guests.

COMMUNICATIONS: Terry Banderas

Updates are issued about twice a month and include current issues, topics and activities. Please send Terry any information you would like passed on to other members. The website is a good source of information on all LHAA activities. It’s updated once to twice per month. Please send digital photographs of your artwork for display on the website.

UPCOMING or CURRENT EVENTS:

(1)   Studio Tour: Cathie Szabo

v     The Studio Tour will be held Saturday, September 5, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm and Sunday, September 6, from 12 noon until 4:00 pm.

v     As of 7/26, there are 27 artists signed up for 22 locations.

v     The Artists’ Pre-Tour and Dinner will be held on September 4.

v     The event will be advertised with an inserts in the August Compass, which will be hand delivered to all 6800 homes here, and the Lincoln News Messenger: advertisement plus the Inside Lincoln Magazine. We will make use of our new Chamber of Commerce membership benefit – Chamber E-Blast and have a calendar item in the Sacramento Bee.

v     Applications were available after the meeting and are available on the website.

v     The deadline for applications has been extended until August 1.

PROGRAMS: Bonnie Dunlap

The following is a list of upcoming meeting agendas:

(1)   August 24: A demonstration by Frank Ordaz, oil painter. You will be able to sign up for his four day workshop - October 23^rd and 30^th and November 13^th and 20^th at the meeting.

(2)   September 28: To be announced

(3)   October 26: Wearable Arts presentation – “Creations, Collections and Challenges”

(4)   November 23: Art Challenge - “Holidays” [Note: Meeting will include reminder about membership renewals and Fine Art Show.]

(5)   December: Dark – No meeting

OTHER PROGRAMS OUTSIDE OF THE MEETINGS:

Plein Aire: Jim Brunk

This group meets at 10:00 am in Kilaga Springs’ Living Room on July 30. This group’s meetings are always on the last Thursday of the month. They hold paint-outs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Jim for more information.

OTHER:

(1)    Kiwanis Fund Raiser Event: Terry Banderas

Melody Quenzar is the contact point for artists who want to donate paintings for the upcoming Lincoln Kiwanis Fund Raiser scheduled for Monday, August 10. If you feel you want to donate, contact Melody at 434-6225.

(2)   Lincoln Arts Art Auction: Diane Pargament

Sewer pipes from the historic Gladding, McBean factory are now available at Lincoln Arts and artists are invited to claim and embellish them in whatever media and manner that they desire. The pipes are about 12 inches high with a diameter of 5 inches. A donation of $7.00 is required for each pipe. Contact Lincoln Arts for additional information.

(3)   The Place: Bonnie Dunlap

This new gallery for art and antiques is located on corner of 5^th Street and Hwy. 65. Please contact Bonnie for details. They will be opening on Saturday, August 1.

(4)   Mat Cutter: Fred Ekman

Bud (Waugh) Murphy has a professional mat cutter with extra blades for sale at $30. Contact Bob if you’re interested in it. His contact information is in the LHAA Roster dated 6/30/09.

SHOW AND TELL

Ron Bauer – Two oils: A small framed miniature from a photo on the Internet and a reworked painting of lily pads using recently learned techniques.

Judy Williams – Oil of her father from an old photograph.

Cosette Augustine – Black ink and watercolor of decorated ceramic pots. She used a water soluble ink – Tondo/Tombo (?)

TODAY’S PROGRAM

Jean Cross – “A Practical Artist”. Jean described her art career from childhood through the present in a Power Point presentation. Her art is driven by her and others’ needs.

ADJOURNMENT: Fred Ekman adjourned the meeting at 2:50 PM. Next meeting is scheduled for August 24 at 2 PM at Kilaga Springs.
